Having adapted well to the changing environment introduced by human populations, the Piwakawaka/Fantail is one of the most prolific and well-loved native birds in Aotearoa. With its distinctive fan shaped tail and energetic flying antics, it brightens urban gardens and dense bushland alike. The Fantail has many different Māori names. As well as Tīwaiwaka, it is commonly called Pīwakawaka, Tīwakawaka or Tīrairaka. A fidgety person is described as a Fantail’s tail, because of the bird’s restless movements.

This stunningly crafted cast glass Pīwakawaka/Fantail bird is created by the incredible glass studio, Luke Jacomb Studio. It has a screw in the back so it can easily be screwed directly into your wall. Looks beautiful alone or as part of a collection.
